Erik Eriksson Holmlund's parents were Erik Olof Johansson and Maria Helena Jonsdotter. Erik Olof Johansson was born in Torrböle in 1806. His father, Johan Jonsson owned a farm in Torrböle. Around 1835 to 1840 Erik owned a farm in Högbränna. In 1841 he was poor and living in a crofter. A crofter is a cottage for rent that was probably paid for by working on the owners farm. In 1841 Erik Olof was in trouble because of stealing. When Erik Eriksson (Holmlund) was born in 1842 he had two older brothers, Johannes Eriksson Lindgren (b. 1834), and Jonas Petter Eriksson Lindgren (b. 1835). In 1843 a younger brother named Olof Eriksson was born. In 1845 a younger sister named Maria Johanna Eriksdotter was born but she died after 4 months. In 1847 another sister also named Maria Johanna Eriksdotter was born. His mother, Maria, died in 1851 and his sister, Maria, died later in 1851. In 1853 Erik Olof Johansson married Margareta(Greta) Sofia Forslund. They lived in Orrböle, Nordmaling parish. They had 8 more children, but only 4 survived as adults, Olof Petter Eriksson Vallin (b. 1853), Catharina Sofia Eriksdotter (b. 1855), Gustav Magnus Eriksson (b. 1857), and Jakob Eriksson (b. 1859). Erik Olof died in 1883 and after this Margareta emmigrated to America on 29 Aug 1885. She came with a 13 year old girl, Hilda Magdalena Larsdotter, born 14 Dec 1871, also living in Orrböle, Nordmaling. Her 19 year old brother had emigrated the year before, in 1884, and the rest of their family in 1889. The parents of the girl were Lars Johan Johansson, born 2 Sep. 1830, and Greta Lisa ?, born 1 June 1835. Margareta is buried at the Swedish Mission Covanent Church close to the north end of the east fence (no marker).
Erik Eriksson (Holmlund) was born at Torrböle, Nordmaling parish, Västerbotten, Sweden on August 10, 1842. His parents were Erik Olof Johansson and Maria Helena Jonsdotter. When he was born he had two older brothers, Johannes Eriksson Lindgren (b. In 1853 Erik Olof Johansson married Margareta Sofia Forslund. They lived in Orrböle, Nordmaling parish. At age 19, in Sept. 1861 Erik Eriksson moved to Långviken, Gideå parish and worked as a farmhand for Erik Bjurström. Erik Bjurström sold his farm in 1867 and Erik Eriksson went back to where his fathers family lived in Orrböle. He worked a Holmfors Bruk along with his father, and with Johan Backstrom. Holmfors Bruk was a ironworks started by Olofsfors Bruk in the 1840s. It closed sometime before 1900 and does not exist any more. The Olofsfors Bruk site still exists and has a nice museum near Nordmaling. Erik Eriksson received his move permit on Sept. 21, 1869 and he went to America. He may have traveled with Erik Bjurstrom. |
