[819] John Wardell was born at New Castle, England on June 20, 1833. Sturdy and self relient he left his home when he was nine years old. A few years later he came to the United States. He was married at Loch Haven, Pennsylvania to Miss Sarah Adalaid Barnes. To this union eleven children were born, six of whom preceded him in death. He lived in a number of states, residing at Kewanee, Illinois for sometime. He and his family lived at Carbon, Wyoming for ten years where he owned a general merchandise store. In 1881 the family moved to Bevier and lived on a farm until his death Nov. 21, 1911 at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 17 days. He and his brothers were engaged in the mining business, of which for many years he was superintendant.
